Survival after subacute cardiac rupture.
A 43-year-old man collapsed suddenly, with pericardial tamponade, seven weeks after an inferior myocardial infarction. Pericardiocentesis disclosed very heavily blood stained fluid. Left ventricular angiography 10 days later showed a left ventricular aneurysm. At operation a left ventricular false aneurysm was resected and the patient recovered uneventfully.

Accidents and posttraumatic injuries are one of the most important health and social problems. Most of them require immediate medico-surgical intervention. Accidents are the leading cause of death among young people under age of 40. In 25% of cases they lead to disability. Fall from height causes inter alia blunt chest trauma, and internal organs contusion (e.g. heart and lungs), and may be fat...

A 74-year-old male patient was admitted to our emergency department with post-MI angina. On account of the anginal complaint that continued for three days, a coronary artery angiography was undertaken. A percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty was performed, followed by the implantation of a coronary stent, and coronary perfusion (TIMI-3) was achieved in the left anterior descending arte...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of Survival in Patients Who Need Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) after Cardiac Surgery
Introduction: Insome cases, assist devices are required to ensure an adequate cardiac output after cardiac surgery. Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is the most commonly used cardiac assist device, which provides first-line support for patients with heart failure. The aim of this study was to determine factors affecting the mortality rate of patients receiving IABP. Materials & Methods: In thi...
متن کاملVentricular Free Wall Rupture: Ten Year Survival After Surgical Repair
Ventricular free wall rupture is a devastating complication of acute myocardial infarction. It occurs in 15-25% of fatal cases. However, the overall incidence in acute MI cases is about 2%. [1] Clinical markers suggesting free wall rupture include pulseless electrical activity in a first MI, and pericardial tamponade. Subacute rupture takes hours or days to develop, and is suggested clinically ...
